Well control

Well control

In SPRING, it is possible to switch individual wells on or off via a water level control. An additional file (*.txt) is created for this purpose, which has the following structure.

Production node | Control node | Switch-on height | Switch-off height

1793 21785 19.52 18.88 # KnBrunnen KnSteuerung HEin HAus

75571 2232 19.37 19.17 # KnFountain KnControl HEin HAus

22325 2246 19.1 18.5# KnFountain KnControl HEin HAus

22508 159 19.65 19.13 # KnFountain KnControl HEin HAus

In the example file, the first line means:

The production in node 1793 (pre-assigned in model file with attribute KNOT) starts when the calculated water level in node 21785 exceeds the value 19.52 m. The extraction is switched off as soon as the water level falls below the threshold value of 18.88 m.

This process is activated by a corresponding entry in the batch file during a transient flow calculation.

The results are logged in an output file (wellcontrol.csv). This contains the time step, GW height of control point 1 [m], production rate of node 1 [m³/s], GW height of control point 2, production rate of node 2, etc.

The order corresponds to the rows in the additional *.txt file.

The name of the additional *.txt file is arbitrary, but must be specified in the batch file.

Specify the file in the last row of the sitra.bsi file, for example:

WELLCONTROL node-well-control.txt

The following hydrograph shows the result of the well control for line 1 of the additional file above:

(switch-on point 19.52 m, switch-off point 18.88 m. The specified rate of 45 m³/s is withdrawn between the control heights.)
